@mrsrich80 Hi mrsich I have a son, 3,5 y, perthes II level. Doctor suggested us wait and see therapy. No cast, no surgery. Nothing at all. Just rays for control every 6 months. They said in youg patients as my son it's necessary nothing. I'm very disappointed for your son. Hoping for the best for our little childs

i found out when i was 5 years old (now 22) and they put on a full leg cast on both of my legs from my hip to my ankle, but i only have perthes on my right hip ..that was hell!!! last 2-3 years my right hip pops, its sounds like when you crack your knuckles and sharp pain hits and goes away..so is that from perthes??

I had this when I was 7 and in second grade(and I'm a girl, super rare), however I had surgery to correct it and never went through braces or crutches like other cases. I am now entirely normal and have no pain and it is almost like it never happened, with only a scar to remind me! I'd look into that option so he doesn't have to live with pain in the future!

I had legg perthes as a child (but I am female-rare I know). I was only put on crutches at the time (3rd grade). I did well until now. I am 34 and having a lot of pain. I need to hold off as long as I can because what's left is a hip replacement surgery. I hope your son has a long happy life without a lot of hip pain. I am glad you're seeking care while he is young. I've heard that makes the difference! :)

umm, yea, definitely get a second opinion, if this doctor is not doing the right thing for your child, this could be detrimental to their future, so i would advise that you get a second opinion just to be on the safe side.

Hi Wendy my daughter has had Perthes disease since she was 6 years old. She is now 20 since her condition deteriorated 9 months ago she has been on painkillers and has a walking stick. We have private hospital insurance. She has to have Xrays every 3 months to see if the cartlidge is wearing out. If it begins to do this, she will need burmingham hip resurfacing or alternatively she has to live with her disability until she feels that she can't live with the disability anymore then have the op.

Lucky. When I had Perthes disease I had to go on a wheelchair...and then crutches.
